Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use assistive technology or who browse differently. If something here gets in your way, please tell us.
Our goal
We’re working toward Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2. We haven’t had an independent audit, so we aren’t claiming that the site fully meets that standard.
What we’ve done
- You can move through the site with a keyboard. There is a skip link at the start of the page, and the focused item is clearly outlined.
- The opening animation respects your device’s reduced motion setting. With that setting on, the page appears without the scroll animation.
- The 3D book can be turned with the arrow keys as well as by dragging.
- Pages use real headings, lists and labels. Meaningful images have text descriptions.
- The layout adapts to phones, tablets and larger screens.
If you are blind or have low vision
- Every page has a clear heading structure and labeled regions, so you can move by heading or landmark in your screen reader. The Skip to content link goes past the opening animation.
- The animations are visual only. All the words on the home page are there for screen readers in reading order, even while they’re faded out on screen.
- The opening photograph and the book cover are described in text, and purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- You don’t need to turn the 3D book. Everything it shows is in its description.
- The Swipe to open Day 01 control under the book is also a regular button, so a tap, a click or the Enter key works without swiping. It opens a preview of the first day in a dialog, and the Escape key or the Close button closes it. The visible text is read aloud, and the blurred part is replaced with a note that the rest is in the book.
- The practice reflection is a labeled text box. Its label is the question, and it tells you that a sample answer is already filled in.
- Links that open in a new tab say so, and focus stays in a sensible place when a button or notice closes.
- You can zoom the page to 200 percent or more, and the text reflows to fit.
What we know needs work
- The long scroll animation at the start of the home page may be tiring for some visitors. You can use the skip link to go straight to the content, or turn on your device’s reduced motion setting.
- Some text sits over photographs and moving backgrounds, which can be harder to read.
- The focus effect on the home page title keeps moving while the title is on screen, and there is no control to pause it. Your device’s reduced motion setting removes it.
- We’ve checked what the site gives to screen readers using automated tools and keyboard tests, but people who are blind haven’t tested it yet. Your feedback would help.
